The Lancashire derby between Bolton Wanderers and Blackburn Rovers has been given the "green light" this weekend after the family of Fabrice Muamba told the club they wish the club's fixtures to be fulfilled.

The Premier League game at the Reebok Stadium will take place as scheduled on Saturday kicking off at 3pm. Owen Coyle's Bolton will replay their FA Cup quarter-final against Tottenham Hotspur next Tuesday, 27th March, with a 7:30pm kick-off.

It comes as Bolton's club doctor revealed that critically-ill midfielder Muamba is continuing to show signs of recovery including having a conversation with his manager and his family. The 23-year-old remains in intensive care at the London Chest Hospital after suffering a cardiac arrest after collapsing on the pitch during Bolton's original FA Cup quarter final tie against Spurs at White Hart Lane.

The game was abandoned after 41 minutes by referee Howard Webb and there were even suggestions that the Trotters would pull out of this season's competitions- comments that were later refuted by club captain Kevin Davies. Tuesday's game against Aston Villa was then postponed after an agreement between the two clubs and the Premier League.

But manager Owen Coyle said today (Wednesday): "We spoke together with the players as a group this morning and I talked with Fabrice's family last night. Fabrice's father Marcel and his fiancee Shauna were keen that we fulfil our fixtures. Once the players knew this, there was no doubt in our minds that we would play the matches."

Blackburn boss Steve Kean had already expressed during his pre-match press conference yesterday before his side's match with Sunderland that the club were willing to postpone the important relegation fixture at the weekend and work with their counterparts in order to "do the best thing for those involved".
