Roger East and Craig Pawson have been announced as the referees for the 2012 Npower Football League play-off Finals at Wembley this weekend.

43-year old Wiltshire whistler East and Pawson from South Yorkshire were both awarded the matches today after both having excellent seasons: East is one of the refs in the frame for promotion to the Select Group of referees - when the lucky referees are announced in July.

East will take charge of the Yorkshire derby between Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United on Saturday, whilst Pawson has got the League 2 clash between Crewe Alexandra and Cheltenham Town.

East will be taking charge of his 45th game of the season on Saturday, the third most Football League referee after Darren Deadman and Stuart Attwell, who was demoted back to the National list on February.

He has officiated 10 matches in League 1 this season – one of which involved Sheffield United and Huddersfield: He was the man in black for the Terriers’ trip to leaders Charlton in November in a game which Huddersfield were beaten 2-0, before taking charge of Sheffield United’s trip to Bournemouth in December in which the Blades came out on top with a 2-0 victory.

He has awarded 6 penalties, 121 yellow cards, and 6 red cards in all competitions this season at an average card count of 2.88 per game; he has awarded just 2 red cards this year (2012).

On the day he will be assisted by Harry Lennard (East Sussex) and Martin Wilkes (West Midlands), with Danny McDermid (Hampshire) on 4th official duties, and Mark Scholes (Buckinghamshire) will be reserve Assistant Referee.

Craig Pawson will be the referee for the match between Crewe Alexandra- who finished the season in 7th, and Cheltenham Town- who finished 5th- on Sunday.

The South Yorkshire man will be officiating his 35th game of the season. Thus far, he has had 7 matches in League 2. He has refereed each participating team this season; Crewe once, their 2-1 defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge in October. He has refereed Cheltenham twice: Their second match of the season when they defeated Champions Swindon 1-0 at home, when he dismissed Cheltenham striker Spencer, and their 1-0 win at Tranmere in the FA Cup 1st Round proper in November.

He has awarded only 4 pens, but handed out 106 yellow cards, and 9 red cards in all competitions this season at an average card count of 3.29 per game, yet only once has the red card had to come out in 2012.

On Sunday, the Assistants are: Steve Bratt (West Midlands) and John Brooks from Leicestershire, with Nigel Miller from County Durham as 4th Official, and David Rock (Hertfordshire) will be reserve Assistant Referee.

Both finals are Live on Sky Sports 1 in HD1 and are avaible in 3D in selected areas.
