Manager:
      Giovanni Trapattoni (73 years old)

Giovanni will be the oldest coach at the Euro 2012 tournament having guided Republic of Ireland to their first European Championship finals in twenty-four years. He almost guided them to the 2010 World Cup finals in South Africa however they narrowly missed out on qualification having been defeated by France in a two-legged play-off which sparked a debate over a controversial Thierry Henry which led to the winning goal. Trapattoni managed his native Italy at the 2002 World Cup and Euro 2004 but left after a disappointing early exit at the group stages in Portugal. He then moved onto Benfica spending one season with the Portuguese outfit leading them to a cup final which they lost but resigned for family reasons. He has also managed AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Cagliari and Fiorentina in Serie A. His coaching career began at Milan in 1975. He also spent a two-year spell at Bayern Munich where he won the German Division, German League Cup and German Cup. He is one of only four managers to have won the league title in four different countries. Giovanni was appointed as boss of the Irish replacing Steve Staunton in February 2008 but saw out the season with his then current club- Austrian outfit Red Bull Salzburg. His first game ended in a 1-1 draw against Serbia in a May friendly although he beat Colombia in his second game in charge- his first at home. Trapattoni suffered his first loss in November 2008 against Poland at Croke Park. He easily led the country to qualification for the Euro 2012 tournament and has since been rewarded with a new two-year contract.
